Tire Pressure Monitoring System - TPMS

Digital Fleet is introducing Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS) integration.  We now offer the ability to integrate with CAN based TPMS hardware to get tire status information off the truck and into the hands of someone that can remedy any tire concerns.  

Improper tire inflation can negatively affect truck efficiency and impact the bottom line.  Under (and over) inflated tires create premature wear, lower fuel economy and even catastrophic tire failure (which can lead to lost loads).  Tracking and maintaining tire pressure is often required.  Even with traditional TPMS systems, the information may not be getting to the right people in a timely manner.  Value of knowing improper tire conditions is only captured if the conditions are returned to optimal running conditions.  

Required Hardware:

• Digital Fleet DF+ Bridge and Tablet
• Doran (wireless tire pressure sensors, monitor, display, hub and remote antenna)

TPMS Functionality:

When this feature is turned on, Digital Fleets provides near real-time awareness of tire conditions to people that can effectively correct / repair the equipment.  Digital Fleet enabled TPMS sends alerts to whomever the fleet indicates (including the driver) of all tires installed immediately upon detection of deviation.  

We do not maintain a historical record of tire pressure.  Each time tire pressure is submitted, we delete any old tire pressure data we had for the truck and store what was just submitted. 

We do however keep a record of any tire issues reported by the tire pressure monitoring system, tracking the following at the individual tire level:

• Low Pressure (as reported by DF+)
• Extreme Low Pressure (as reported by DF+)
• High Pressure (as reported by DF+)
• High Temperature (temp > 175F)
• Leak Detected (as reported by DF+)

When one of these issues is reported, we will create a "Vehicle Issue" in the database.  When the issue stops being reported, we will clear the Vehicle Issue.  We do not delete Vehicle Issue data.

Tire Pressure Chart

For Trucks with TPMS enabled, and with current tire pressure data, we will display a chart similar to the following on the Truck Dashboard's DF+ tab and on DigiTrack.  

This screenshot is using test data, which is why tires on axle 1 and axle 2 are flagged in the error/warning state, even though the data is the same across all tires.

Abbreviations:

• CS - Curb Side

• SS - Street Side

Color Codes:

• Green - Tire has no active medium or high severity issues.

• Yellow - Tire has an active Vehicle Issue that is one of the following:

  • Low pressure

  • High pressure

  • High temperature

  • Leak detected

• Red - Tire has an active Vehicle Issue that is one of the following:

  • Extreme low pressure

  • Extreme high pressure

Tire Pressure Monitoring Report

The “Tire Pressure Monitoring” report will display the latest tire pressure data submitted for each truck equipped with a tire pressure monitoring system. The report will display the number of any current Vehicle Issues related to tires for that truck, along with the most recently submitted tire pressure for each tire.

TPMS Tire Issues Report

Provides a history of times that a TPMS issue was recorded.  

Vehicle Issue Alerts

A new Vehicle Issues alert can be created to be notified when the tire pressure monitoring system reports issues with the vehicle’s tires. This alert can be configured to report real time and can also trigger a notification to the driver’s tablet. You can specify which issues you would like to be alerted on. or leave the Vehicle Issues selection blank to be notified on any vehicle issue.

• Low Tire Pressure

• Tire Leak Detected

TPMS Web App Dashboard

The dashboard can be accessed via the navigation side panel under the FLEET category

The Web App TPMS Dashboard provides a fleetwide view of all trucks with TPMS enabled, and the current state of their tires. Filters can be used to filter the results by truck, division, or location, and tags are also supported on this page.

The cells contain the last reported tire pressure for that specific tire, or “--” if no data is reported for that wheel location. Like the Truck Dashboard, the cell will be yellow if there is a warning for the tire (i.e. low tire pressure) or red if there is a high severity warning for the tire (i.e. extreme low tire pressure).
