What is a GPS Routing Point?
A GPS Routing Point is a specific spot on the map that turn-by-turn directions use as the destination. Instead of navigating to the center of a geofence, drivers are directed to the exact point you choose—for example, a gate or entrance.
Why use it?
When a location covers a large area (e.g., a plant or job site), the “center” of the geofence may be in the middle of a building or lot. Setting a Routing Point lets you navigate drivers to the right place, such as the main entrance for a job site.
Where can I set a Routing Point?
You can set a GPS Routing Point on:
- Points
- Job sites
Use the map to access the setting modal when creating or editing the point or job site:
How do I create or change a GPS Routing Point?
- Open the create or edit screen for the point or job site (e.g., Point edit modal).
- In the map controls, click the marker (pin) button.
- Click on the map where you want drivers to be directed. A blue pin appears at that spot—that’s your Routing Point.
- To remove the Routing Point, click “Clear Routing Point.”
Example:
If the Point is for a plant, you might put the blue pin at the entrance. Trucks routed to this plant will get directions to that entrance (e.g., 41.80101, -88.11322), not to the center of the plant’s area (e.g., 41.80109, -88.11182).
Where do I see a Routing Point?
After you add a Routing Point, it appears in a few places:
On the map – When you select a point or job, the blue pin shows the Routing Point.
- In the slideout – When you select a point or job, the slideout shows details for that location, including its GPS Routing Point.
Good to know
- Navigation only – The Routing Point is used only for turn-by-turn navigation. Other features (e.g., status updates, arrival/departure) still use the location’s geofence.
- The pin can be outside the location’s radius/geofence, if that’s where you want drivers to go (e.g., a gate just outside the lot).
- One pin per location – Each point or job site can have only one Routing Point. To change it, edit the location and move or clear the pin.
